WaterSense labeled new homes are certified to be at least 20% more water-efficient than a typical new home, while maintaining or improving performance. The program is administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
WaterSense for New Homes is a voluntary partnership program that helps builders construct homes that use water more efficiently. The program covers indoor water use (plumbing fixtures, appliances) and outdoor water use (irrigation systems, landscaping). Homes that earn the WaterSense label have been independently verified to meet strict water efficiency guidelines.
WaterSense labeled toilets, faucets, and showerheads that use significantly less water than standard fixtures without sacrificing performance.
Efficient hot water distribution systems that reduce the time and water wasted waiting for hot water to arrive at the tap.
Where applicable, irrigation systems with weather-based controllers and efficient distribution to minimize outdoor water waste.
The average WaterSense labeled home saves more than 30,000 gallons of water per year compared to a standard new home. This translates to lower water bills and reduced strain on local water supplies and wastewater treatment systems.
